Bill To Establish University Of Education, Kano, Passes 2nd Reading

A bill seeking the creation of the Federal University of Education (Technical), Bichi, Kano State, has passed the second reading in the Senate.

Its sponsor, Sen Jibrin Barau, representing Kano North, Wednesday, stressed the need for a strong educational sector for the training of teachers.

The proposed university would encourage advancement of learning to all persons without distinction of race or religion, he said.

He added that it would provide the platform for the award of certificates and various categories of degrees.

Senator Barau said the institution would among other things transform the decayed educational infrastructure, and change the educational fortunes of the country for the better.

The lawmakers gave unanimous support for the bill when it was put to voice votes by Senate President Ahmad Lawan.

Our correspondent reports that the bill was referred to the Senate Committee on Tertiary Education and TETFUND for further legislative actions.
