The Enugu State commissioner of police, CP Abubakar Lawal, Thursday, directed area commanders, divisional police officers (DPOs) and heads of all tactical/operational units of the command to begin the implementation of the ban on all spy number plates in the state.
This is in compliance with the order of the inspector-general of police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, on the nationwide ban on the use of SPY number plates, as well as the consequent revocation, seizure of number plates and reversal to the original registered number plates by vehicle owners.
Commissioner Lawal charged the supervisory officers to ensure that police operatives carrying out the enforcement do so with the utmost sense of diligence and professionalism, devoid of disrespect for the rights of citizens.
He further directed the X-Squad Section of the command to monitor the enforcement process and ensure that the operatives completely comply with the directive.
The state police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, stated this in a release on Thursday.
According to him, “The CP further ordered all police officers and those of other security agencies attached to VIPs who use spy number plates to ensure prompt compliance with the directive or otherwise risk being arrested for violation of the order.”
The commissioner, in the release, enjoined citizens of the state, particularly those ‘who hitherto have been using spy number plates to cooperate with the police in this regard, as the ban is aimed at strengthening security in the state and the nation at large’.
