The national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Abdullahi Adamu on Sunday said he was unaware his party was defeated in the Osun state gubernatorial election held Saturday.
Adamu made this declaration on the Morning show of the Arise TV on Sunday, saying he was yet to hear a formal announcement from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The APC chairman also said he had not spoken to the incumbent Governor Adegboyega Oyetola, the candidate of the APC.
When asked about his expectations, he again stressed that until he heard from INEC.
He said, “With due respect my dear brother I’m hearing the results from you. I have not formally heard an announcement from INEC which is responsible for elections in Nigeria, I have not heard from them yet. Once I heard formally from INEC I can’t be in a position to answer this question.
“Between me and you I have not formally heard from INEC and I have not read the paper you are talking about. I do read papers before I have my breakfast.
“I don’t like preempting my situation. Until I hear from INEC formally or my people in control confirm yes this is the results of course I will abide by it.
“Expectations are what you have during campaigns. Elections took place yesterday to the best of my knowledge. The election was going on through the night and until I get the results I will not speak,” he added.
Speaking on the Muslim-Muslim ticket, he said any party would pick candidates that can will election for it.
“Ordinarily and between me and you and the God who created me, I respect the views of people and politics is about people and I cannot tell you I don’t care what people feel but this is Nigeria for you and me, we have Muslims and Christians yes, and we are involved in multiparty politics in Nigeria and every party in his own value judgement would replace on the platform the candidates they feel best they can win election.
“It is as simple as that this is politics and whether you are a Muslims or Christian you know that God himself does not act in vain.”
