2023: Special Task Of Judges To ‘Swiftly’ Dispense Pre-Election Matters Set Up

By Adadainfo
Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, the chief judge of the Federal High Court, Wednesday, set up a special taskforce of judges to determine all pre-election cases within four weeks.
The objective, our correspodent reports, is to determine all pre-2023 election matters.
Dr Catherine Oby Christopher, assistant director, information, Federal High Court of Nigeria, stated this in a press release.
According to the chief judge, the judges nominated for the assignment are to timely hear and pass judgements in all pre-election cases.
He said this became necessary because such cases are time-bound.
The release stated that in view of the ‘large volume of pre-election suits that have flooded the court’, there was need to initiate swift ways for their dispensation.
Our correspodent gathered that judges who are members of the task force are directed to suspend all regular cases in their respective courts to focus on  electoral cases only.
It read partly, “In view of the large volume of pre-election cases filed so far, with the imminent attendant risk of lapsing, it has become necessary to constitute a task force to speedily dispose of the matters, particularly in those judicial divisions with a glut of them.”
