The House of Assembly candidate of the Labour Party for Onuimo Local Government Area in Imo State, Honourable Christopher Eleghu, has been allegedly assassinated.
Our correspodent gathered that he was shot dead by yet-to-be-identified men Thursday night in his house. His assailants also burnt his house.
A source told PUNCH on condition of anonymity that, “They have killed Christopher Eleghu, popularly known as Wasco. Until his death he was the Labour Party candidate in Onuimo Local Government Area. They invaded his house when everybody had gone to sleep and shot for over two hours.
“They killed the man and burnt his house. They also destroyed his property. His corpse was lying on the floor with matchet cuts when villagers gathered in the morning.”
Eleghu’s killing occurred ten days after the killing of another Labour Party candidate in the state, Chukwunonye Irouno, who hailed from Okigwe LGA.
The state police command is yet to make a formal statement on Eleghu’s assassination.
