The senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for Enugu East Senatorial District, Barr Oyibo Chukwu, was Wednesday evening assassinated at Amechi Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area of the state.
Sources said Barr Chukwu was killed along with five other Labour Party supporters.
Barr Chijioke Edeoga, governorship candidate of the party in the state, told the PUNCH that, “It is true that our senatorial candidate for Enugu East senatorial district for Saturday’s election has been killed. They shot him and five others and set them ablaze.
“Our party members are being targeted for assassination by political parties that felt threatened by the rise of the Labour Party in the state and are afraid they may lose the Saturday’s election.”
The state police command is yet to confirm the incident. Also, Comrade Ibuchukwu Ohabuenyi Ezike, the state publicity secretary of the party, is yet to make a statement on the alleged Oyibo’s assassination.
