Operatives of the Imo State Police Command’s Quick Intervention Team (QIT) have apprehended five suspected cultists.

They were arrested during an intelligence-led operation at Irete on September 2, 2024, the state police command stated in Sunday.

The state police public relations officer, Mr Henry Okoye, gave the names of the suspects as Uche Ibejiako, 26, from Owerri Municipal; Mariano Daniel, 24, from Delta State; Micheal Chukwuemeka, 23, from Umuokwu Izombe in Oguta Local Government Area (LGA); and Annointing Ezeh, 23, from Umugada Irete in Owerri West LGA.

He stated that, “All four suspects have confessed to being members of the Black Axe Confraternity, a known criminal group. An ongoing investigation aims to gather further evidence on their activities. The suspects will be charged in court upon completion of this thorough investigation.”

Meanwhile, the Imo State Police Command has urged the public to continue supporting efforts to combat crimes by reporting suspicious activities to the nearest police station or via 0803 477 3600.

“Our combined efforts are crucial in maintaining peace and security across the state,” Okoye said.
