Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Tuesday, announced the signing of the state’s 2025 Appropriation Bill of N971bn into law.
The bill, named “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity”, according to Gov Mbah, reflected the commitment of the state to transform Enugu State into a hub of opportunities where no one would be left behind.
Quoting him, “With N837.9bn representing 86% allocated to capital expenditure, and N133.1bn (14%) for recurrent expenditure, we are laying the foundation for sustainable development across all sectors.”
He said education, “as the bedrock of our future”, took the largest share for the second consecutive year with N320.6 billion (over 33%) because of the belief of the state government “that eradicating poverty begins with empowering the mind”.
In his words, “I extend my deepest gratitude to the Enugu State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Hon Uchenna Ugwu, and the Deputy Speaker, Hon Ezenta Ezeani, for the speedy passage of the budget.”
He said the prompt passage of the budget by the House was “a true Christmas gift to Ndi Enugu, ensuring that by January 1st, 2025, we are ready to continue our march towards a greater Enugu State”.
Mbah continued, “As we implement this budget, we are guided by the principle that marginal or incremental growth is not enough for us. Our focus remains on exponential growth, driven by deliberate and intentional actions to ensure that no child in our state goes to bed hungry.”
He assured Enugu people that his administration would sustain the pace of development already on ground, particularly in education, health, tourism, infrastructure among others.
He wrote, “We shall continue to work towards achieving our promise of reducing poverty headcount to zero and transforming our beloved Enugu State into a beacon of hope and excellence.”
