The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has distanced itself from reports that it abandoned Senator Ike Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, on the allegations that they engaged in human trafficking with intent to harvest the organ of a minor.
Adadareporters reports that a UK Magistrates’ Court remanded Mr Ekweremadu and his wife over the allegation. Their case is fixed for July 7.
Dr Chidozie Alex Ogbonna, national publicity secretary of Ohanaeze, stated this in a release.
He wrote, “It is not in the character of Ndigbo to either act hastily or abandon one of their own.
“The Ohaneze Ndigbo World alligns with the statement issued by the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, in praying for our daughter, Sonia, and the family in this trying moment.”
Ohanaeze warned impostors to distance themselves from its affairs, adding that, “It is a taboo in Igboland for one to rejoice at the travails of a brother. Our hearts are with the Ekweremadu family and pray that they will overcome the current travails.”
Ohanaeze appreciated Engr Dave Umahi, governor of Ebonyi State, for his intervention to ensure that emotions and social media tigritude ‘do not outweigh the facts in the matter’.
