Al Kholood striker Aniekpeno Udoh has hailed ‘Fantastic Goalscorer’ Odion Ighalo for winning the Saudi Arabian Professional League title and top scorer award in the just concluded season.
Odion Ighalo began the season at Al Shabab before joining Al Hilal in the January transfer window. The Nigerian striker’s brace in the 2-1 win over Al Faisaly his 23rd and 24th of the season helped Al Hilal win the league title on Monday night.
In an exclusive chat with Sportsration.com, Udoh, who plays for Saudi Arabian side Al Kholood SC, hailed compatriot Odion Ighalo for clinching the league title and top scorer award.
Udoh said, “Ighalo is a fantastic goalscorer and has over the course of his career proven this. Winning the top scorer award and league title is a huge feat and I am very happy for him. This will go a long way to increase the rating of Nigerian players in Saudi Arabia.
“I’ve been following his career closely. Those days before I became Pro, you watch this guy and learn. As a young player, you take motivation from great guys like Odion Ighalo as you push through with the numbers and records on the way to the top.
“Ighalo has an incredible goal average with his clubs and even with the Nigerian national team so what he did with Al Hilal is no fluke. Man has done this all through his career and so deserves all the accolades he is getting,” the former KuPs striker concluded.
Aniekpeno Udoh moved to Al Kholood SC in January 2022 from Finnish club Kuopion Pallouseura and despite the obvious challenges of settling into a new culture, language and league, he contributed significantly with his goals to help Al Kholood club to a respectable top half finish.
Odion Ighalo and Aniekpeno Udoh are managed by top agent Atta Aneke.
