The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Friday, described Delta State governor Ifeanyi Okowa as ‘a moral edifice, confluence of large heart and humility, astute administrator, detribalized patriot, and pragmatic consummate politician’ as Dr Okowa marks his 63rd birthday.
Okowa, the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, is 63 today, July 8, 2022.
Ohanaeze stated this in a release by its national publicity secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia.
The statement read, “Ohanaeze Ndigbo observes with immense delight that the life trajectory of His Excellency is undergirded by his Igbo name—Ifeanyichukwu. Nothing is greater than God.
“Most Igbo names are a marriage register of geography, history and destiny. In other words, some Igbo names are invocative; it rekindles the inner consciousness, unlocks the treasury of courage, optimism and ultimately uplifts the individual as a cosmic agent.
“The above backdrop explains why the audacity of courage, intellect, hope, character and discipline is far superior to the audacity of wealth and arrogance of power.
“Perhaps, the foregoing explains the phenomenal ascendancy of Okowa as an University of Ibadan trained medical doctor to the secretary, Ika North East Local Government; chairman, Ika North East Local Government; commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources; commissioner for Water Resources Development; commissioner for Health; secretary to the Delta State Government; senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; ECOWAS parliamentarian, governor of Delta State and the vice presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
“In each of the above offices that Okowa held, he exhibited great deal of prudence, temperance, humility, mutual toleration, self-censorship, cross ethnic appeal and institutional forbearance.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo derives immense joy from the quality of service the Delta Igbo have demonstrated in Nigerian politics, academia, economy, military, sports, media, and Nollywood.”
Ohananeze named some great Igbo deltans to include Chief Denis Osadebey, Professor Chike Edozien, Tony Elumelu, Col Joe Achuzie, Philip Asiodu, Elizabeth Isichei, Ibe Kachikwu, Sony Odogwu, Nduka Obaigbena, Ned Nwoko, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Joy Ogwu, Austin Jay Jay Okocha, Jim Ovia, Pat Utomi, Maryan Babangida, Sunday Oliseh, Air-Marshal Paul Dike, Lucky Irabor, Stephen Okechukwu Keshi, Godwin Emefiele, Ambassador Raph Uwechue, Epiphany Azinge, Rita Daniels Chukwujindu, Echefuna R D Onyebeadi, Sylvan Ebigwei, and Omu Okpanam.
The president general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide, Ambassador Professor George Obiozor, in the statement, expressed his ‘admiration for men of robust ideas and solid character; talented men with strategic deployment of intellect in the service of humanity’.
