It has been mixed feelings as Nigerians react to the quiet increase in the Pump Price of Petrol as directed by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) Tuesday 19 July 2022.
To some it was that of shock that this type of policy decision can be taken at this time that Nigerians are suffering the harsh economic situation.
Mr. Okey Ezea an auto electrician in GRA Enugu was not even aware of the increase and asked, ‘ when is it going to come down’. But as he asked nothing goes up and comes down.
In like manner, Mr. Basil Chimdike expressed surprise at the development noting that ‘ this is not a good move at this time’.
It will be recalled that NNPC directed an increase in petroleum Tuesday July 19 July 2022. There has been a push by marketers for an increase as in their own opinion the N 165 was no longer realistic.
The question on the lips of Nigerians is ‘ when will our Refineries work and importation stopped in the interest of the people.’
Adadainfo had suggested using Modula refineries. The implication of the increase is a price flight of goods and services which will further worsen the already harsh economic reality in the face of constant income of public servants.
