Katsina State Police Command on Thursday confirmed the death of five police officers and three civilians in the fresh attack carried out by suspected terrorists on Gatigawa village in Kankara Local Government Area of the state.
The command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the incident, said the terrorists numbering over 300 and armed with sophisticated weapons invaded the community at about 6:45 pm on Wednesday where they killed three residents of the town including five policemen brought from Kano State for special duties in the area.
He said, “The terrorists were over 300 and fully armed. They killed five policemen who came from Kano state on special duties at Gatikawa. The terrorists attacked them at 6.45pm and killed three civilians. Investigation is already in progress over the matter.”
A credible source who is a resident of the area said the terrorists stormed the village on motorcycles, going from house to house to seize valuables, money and foodstuff.
He said many villagers suffered multiple injuries as they attempted to escape from the terrorists.
Our correspondent gathered that many inhabitants of the area had since relocated from the village shortly after the Wednesday attack.
