An eye witness, Sunday, told Adadainfo how a yet-to-be-identified okada operator was shot and matcheted by alleged motorcycle snatchers along Ugwu Odenigwe road by Ikpa market junction at Nsukka.
The witness, who refused to disclose his name, said, “It happened two weeks ago, on Thursday to be precise. It was around 7pm. The okada man was forced to stop by one of the attackers.
“They began to drag his motorcycle. He resisted, was shouting. After some minutes of struggles, they used an object, likely a machete, to cut his forehead. It was a deep cut. They also shot him to silence him.
“He fell unconscious, and they took away his motorcycle. The victim was later taken to hospital where he died. The bleeding was too much. People were afraid to rescue him immediately. Some ran for safety.”
It was learnt that the victim bought the motorcycle on a hire purchase and was combining okada business with tiling jobs.
“I heard that he has been buried,” a resident of the street where the incident happened told our reporter. “He is not from Nsukka. He only lived at Nsukka”
When contacted, the Enugu State Police public relations officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, said, “Such report has not been reported to the police. Once we get the report and insight into such occurrence, you will be duly communicated, please.”
