As the call for the impeachment of President Muhammad Buhari by some National Assembly members over insecurity and economic malfunctioning continues to generate reactions, some Enugu residents, Thursday, aired their views on the matter.
Some of them are of the opinion that it came late, while some said that it would be ‘a miracle of the century if it happened’.
A political analyst who interacted with Adadainfo, Mr Robert Ngwu, said that the call “is an empty one”.
According to him, “The cry is because insecurity has encroached them in Abuja. Some of them, for sometime, have not been to their constituents because bandits have taken over their places.
“Security is not something that nepotism should determine. It is human life. Meritocracy should be the watchword but here, ethnic and religious jingoism is the modus operandi for giving an appointment.
“If it is in a sane clime, somebody like Rauf Aregbesola, the minister of interior, and some other security chiefs must have been sacked for not acting on the information giving to them by the DSS before the Kuje prison attack, but you see that they are still occupying their various offices.
“Nigeria is still using analoguous means in securing their country. It is more of science and intelligence gathering, not all the time carrying guns.
“Intelligence gathering will tell security men that dangers are coming to enable them to prepare to avert them, not waiting till they come.
“Call for impeachment of the president holds no water this time around. I don’t know whether National Assembly are aware of the section 144 of the Constitution of the country, which explains steps to impeach the president.
“It can take up to seven months before coming into effect, and they gave the president six weeks. How many months remain for the end of Buhari’s administration?”
A legal practitioner, Mr C.D Ogbeh, said, “What we should be talking about now is striving to get PVCs. They know that some unprecedented is about to happen in 2023 elections, and now they are calling for impeachment. They should allow him to finish his tenure and hand over to the winner of next year’s presidential election.”
