A girl, 17, has been reportedly raped and murdered by unknown persons in Ebonyi.
The incident occurred at Agbabor in Isu, Onitcha Local Government Area of the state, our correspondent gathered.
The deceased’s picture was trending, where her lifeless photo lay on firewood with her throat cut open.
A source claimed she was returning to her home from a neighbouring village when she was attacked.
The Ebonyi State government has reacted to the incident.
Mr Uchenna Orji, the state commissioner for information and orientation, debunked claims the act was carried out by Fulani herdsmen.
Herdsmen were not residing in the area, he said, and appealed for calm in the community.
The state police public relations officer, Mr Chris Anyanwu, confirmed that the deceased’s underwear was missing when her remains were found.
Efforts were on to fish out the killers, he added.
