The chief whip of the Senate, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, weekend, bemoaned the level of hatred among Nigerian elite.
Orji, a former governor of Abia State, stated this on his verified Facebook page.
According to him, “The level of hatred among Nigerians, especially the elite, is alarming. We are too religious, yet it is not enough to make us love one another.”
He called for tolerance to move Nigeria forward. Echoing him, “We must learn to live together and tolerate one another irrespective of our ethnic and religious affiliations, just like Jesus Christ admonished us in the Holy Book.”
He called on Nigerians to emulate Jesus Christ who preached love and promoted love. He said it is by such love that Nigerians can conquer the avalanche of hatred pervading the country.
He said, “Hate in Nigeria, like tribalism, is a systemic problem and it is structural with both the leaders, elite and masses fully involved in it.
“All citizens of the country are guilty of this. We must learn to promote love among ourselves and appreciate the fact that we are Nigerians.
“We must do away with envy and tribalism. The elite are number one culprits of hate as well as hate-speech. Nigeria should be structured and governed on the basis of truth, love and patriotism.”
