The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Tuesday, congratulated Labour and Employment Minister Chris Ngige as he turns 70.
Ohanaeze, in a statement by its national publicity secretary, Dr Alex Ogbonnia, described Dr Ngige as a ‘prudent resource manager, infrastructure catalyst, political pathfinder, democratic archetype, grassroots mobilizer and a physician of global renown’.
Ngige is a former governor of Anambra State. He turned 70 on August 8, 2022.
According to Ohanaeze, “This day reminds us the birth of an exceptionally brilliant, ingenious, warm and generous persona who has distinguished himself most creditably in every endeavour he sets his mind upon.
“[Ngige] is a focused visionary who pursues his set goals with Spartan zeal, tenacity, passion and an old school integrity. In all the offices so far held, he left indelible footprints that post neither tarnish nor blemish.
“The people of South East of Nigeria will never forget Senator Chris Ngige in a hurry. Ngige opened our eyes to the possibilities of state power; and the successive governors in Anambra State had strived to either emulate Ngige or surpass Ngige.”
Ohanaeze recalled that Ngige, as governor, ‘transformed the entire state into a massive construction site; comprising rural road infrastructure, rural electrification, schools, hospitals, markets, churches, while some of his contemporaries were busy amassing illicit wealth for their great grand-children’.
Ohanaeze added that, “He made astounding landmarks that have enriched the discourse in third world politics of godfatherism and prebendalism.
“On the day of grand reckoning, while the tenure of some governors will be summarized in footnotes, several chapters will be devoted to the Ngige phenomenon.”
