The Ebonyi State government, Wednesday, announced the revocation of all land spaces and shops located at the popular Kpirikpiri market in Abakaliki.
This was contained in a statement by the state commissioner for information and orientation, Mr Uchenna Orji.
Orji said the decision was in response to alleged illegal sale of the property by officials of Ebonyi local government council.
The statement government, in the release, frowned at their action because ‘the market was within the state capital and as such belongs to the state government’.
It directed all occupants of shops and land spaces in the area to within seven days proceed to the state Ministry of Market Development for appropriate documentation and payment.
The statement government also warned that it would shut down shops whose occupants failed to go for documentation within the stipulated time, adding that it ‘did not give anyone the right to sell shops and lands at Kpirikpiri market’.
Efforts are being made to get the reaction of the chairman of the local government area.
