Gov Charles Soludo of Anambra State has suspended the transition committee chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area, Hon Mbazulike Iloka, for allegedly beating his wife, Chidiebere, to death.
Reports earlier stated that the deceased passed on last Sunday morning after serving her husband food. She slumped and died, a source had stated.
However, later outcries that the council chairman, popularly called Mba Mba, actually beat his wife to death on that fateful day prompted ongoing police investigations to unravel the cause of her death.
Hon Iloka was suspended via a letter signed by the state commissioner for local government, chieftaincy and community affairs, Mr Tonycollins Nwabunwanne, which was made available to our correspondent in Awka.
The letter is entitled ‘Letter of Suspension From Officer’, and read thus: “Following the sad and sudden death of your wife, the late Mrs Chidiebere Iloka, on 7th of August, 2022, there has been a massive public outcry over the circumstances leading to the cause of her death, including alleged possible homicide.
“While you are presumed innocent until the completion of investigations, it has become imperative that you should step aside to allow unfettered investigations and justice.
“Consequently, you are directed to step aside and hand over the affairs of the local government to the head of the local government administration not later than 12th August, 2022, until further notice.”
