Last week, Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State inaugurated the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards with an aim of curbing insecurity and Fulani herdsmen’s killings in the state.
The governor took that step to live up to his nickname, ‘the Defender of Benue Valleys’. The nickname was given to him by the people of the state in 2018 when it became obvious that he was ready to drop his life as well as his second term ambition so the state could be free from insecurity and Fulani killings.
A few days after the inauguration of the guards, the Benue state major opposition party, the All Progressive Congress, sponsored various media attacks on the governor and the project. This alone shows that the opposition party is gaining each time killings take place in Benue State.
Findings show that the Benue APC is backing Fulani herders at the expense of the people of Benue State just because of the huge billions which the Miyetti Allah association has promised to donate to the party to reclaim power from the PDP during the next election.
The Benue APC has been condemning the establishment of the Volunteers Guards on the social media, as well as in the conventional media for no reason. The only thing Benue people should know is that APC in the state will always condemn any measure taken by the governor to stop Fulani herders from killing them.
A very cogent question is, why is Benue APC not supporting the governor on this even if it was the devil and his soldiers that he inaugurated last week to stop insecurity and killings in the state?
The public should quickly know this – the Benue APC has commenced media wars against an important security measure initiated by Governor Samuel Ortom to prevent their killers from further killing them. Now, the people of Benue State should know their enemies, the APC people.
