The Falconets of Nigeria, Sunday, qualified for the quarterfinals of the ongoing 10th FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica after defeating South Korea one nil.
The victory gave the Christopher Danjuma-led girls maximum six points having earlier beaten favourites France by alone goal.
Nigeria’s goal against Korea was scored by Esther Onyenezide in the 83rd minute.
South Korea had earlier beaten Canada 2-0 in their first match.
Korean keeper Yoonji Do had in the 54th minute parried Esther Onyenezide’s shot from the right side; the same way Oyono Omini parried away a fierce 25-yard shot unleashed by Eunyoung Lee in the 64th minute.
Falconets’ final group game is against Canada scheduled for the early hours of Thursday, August 18, 2022.
