The ‘war’ between the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has left the negotiation table to the Industrial court, Adadainfo gathered.
Recall that ASUU began strike on February 14 this year over FG’s failure to abide by many agreements it reached with the university teachers. Among them is increased funding of higher education in the country to avoid its imminent collapse.
A source at the Federal Ministry of Labour revealed weekend that the Trade Dispute Department of the ministry had instituted a suit at the Industrial Arbitration Court in Abuja, adding that the case would be heard next Monday.
According to the source, “The federal government has filed a case at the Industrial Court challenging the continued strike by the university teachers. This is in conformity with Section 17 of the Trade Dispute Act.”
