The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party wants the immediate resignation of the party’s national chairman, Chief Iyorchia Ayu.
The zone’s position was made known by Gov Seyi Makinde of Oyo State after the party’s stakeholders’ meeting with the PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, in Ibadan yesterday.
According to Makinde, “If we want to unify Nigeria, we must unify PDP first. If we want to restructure Nigeria, we must bring inclusivity to PDP. The South-West PDP is asking that NWC of PDP should be restructured.
“We are asking the national chairman to step down so that the South will be fully included.”
The zone’s position reflects that of Gov Nyesome Wike of River State who has threatened to ‘help PDP’ lose the 2023 presidential election for the party’s failure to balance powers between the North and the South.
Wike’s position is that North should not hold the presidential candidature as well as national chairmanship of the party.
