The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Wednesday, said it would appeal the ruling of the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) which ordered the union to suspend its seven-months’ old Industrial action with ‘immediate effect’.
Our correspondent reported that the court ruled in favour of the federal government, which prayed the court to compel ASUU to call off the strike
The decision to appeal the ruling was disclosed in a statement by the Lagos zonal coordinator of the union, Dr Adelaja Odukoya.
It quoted ASUU’s national president, Professor Emmanuel Osodeke, to have said, “Our lawyer is filing an appeal and stay of execution of the judgment.
“The NICN back-to-work-order on ASUU: Be calm. Members should remain resolute and strong. A people united can never be defeated. Solidarity without compromise.”
The industrial action began on 14th Feb 2022 following the federal government’s failure to implement its agreement with the union, including increased funding of university education in the country.
