The Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, should call off its strike, although its contentions ‘are genuine’.
The director of the Department of the State Security in charge of Yobe, Yunusa Abdulkadir, stated this on Thursday in Damaturu at the Third Quarterly Conference of the State Directors of Security in the North-East Zone.
He regretted that the strike, which started February 14, 2022 had paralysed university education in the country, adding that it had security implications.
In his words, “In as much as we know that ASUU is pursuing a genuine cause, they should take a deeper look at the peculiarities of North-East region that has stayed for over a decade in the hands of insurgents.”
Recall that the National Industrial Court has yesterday ordered ASUU to suspend its strike, which it embarked upon following the federal government’s failure to increase funding of university education, among other agreements it entered with the union.
However, ASUU has appealed the ruling through its counsel Femi Falana, SAN.
