Osita Mama, from Ezimo in Udenu Local Government Area of Enugu State, is in dire need of assistance after fracturing his hip almost two years ago. He is presently lying in one position since the incident happened on 13th April, 2020.
The graduate of accountancy of Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu, told our correspondent that, “It all began like a joke. I rode on a motorcycle from Obollo-Afor to Ezimo on that fateful day. I went, alongside my friends, to a friend’s house.
“While I was seated there, I noticed some serious pains on my legs. I managed to shake my legs, but the pains increased. That was how it all started. Since then till today, my life has changed. The irony of it is that the dislocation or fracture was spontaneous.
“I was brought back home on a motorcycle. I first went to a private hospital. An x-ray was done. Then the doctor referred me to the Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, for treatment. There, I was told the only solution to my situation was hip replacement, and the cost as at then was about N1.8m. I don’t have any job, so I couldn’t afford it. I had to return home to be managing the situation.”
The thirty-eight-year-old said he had been borrowing and selling whatever valuable he has to take care of his health and young family.
His wife, Jacinta, solicited assistance from public-spirited people and organisations to save her husband from the pains he is passing through.
In her words, “We borrow everyday to even feed. The cost of medication is also increasing by the day. If the pains begin, I need to massage his legs severally before he could get relief. We do go to hospitals when the pains become too much.
“The only solution is to change the hip. As it is, blood supplies down his legs are not sufficient. That gives me more worries because his legs are becoming slimmer. We thank friends and relatives who have been assisting us. My husband has no parents any longer.”
