To check the excesses of the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company in Ebonyi State, the state House of Assembly, Monday, directed its committee on power to investigate the activities the power distributing compnay.
Our correspodent gathered that the action of the House followed alleged high tariff and epileptic power supply faced by consumers in the state.
The directive was sequel to a matter of urgent public importance tendered by Chief Kingsley Ikoro, the House deputy speaker, during the House plenary.
Ikoro represents Afikpo North West State Constituency. He claimed in his motion that EEDC was imposing high charges on the consumers without commensurate electricity supply.
The leader of the House and member representing Ezza North West State Constituency, Mr Victor Chukwu, seconded the motion. Chukwu said EEDC was extorting the people.
Chief Francis Nwifuru, the House speaker, ordered the House Committee on Power to summon the company to explain why it was engaging in arbitrary charges and supplying epileptic power.
Efforts are being made to get the reaction of Mr Emeka Eze, head, public relations of the EEDC.
