The reports making the rounds that unknown gunmen, Tuesday, attacked a police checkpoint in Anambra State are unfounded.
The state police command, through its PPRO, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, told our reporter in Awka that the said reports could not be tracked despite efforts by the police operatives in the state.
The media were awash that many people were killed and scores wounded during the attack that allegedly took place around 10:30am at the Ihiala-Uli axis in Ihiala local government area of the state.
A news medium reported that, “The attack forced commuters to run for their lives as the gunmen shot non-stop.”
However, DSP Ikenga told our correspodent that, “It is not true. There has [been a] patrol led by the area commander with other security agencies in the state going on in the area since morning, up till now.
