Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano State is ready to endorse the death warrant of Sheikh Abduljabbar Nasiru Kabara, an Islamic cleric convicted a few days ago.
The state commissioner for justice and attorney general, Mr Lawan Musa, stated this Thursday while reacting to the sentencing of Abduljabbar to death by hanging.
Recall that an Upper Sharia Court convicted the cleric for blasphemy levelled against him by the state government.
The commissioner told Daily Trust that Gov Ganduje is committed to ensuring maintenance of law and order, hence the conviction of the cleric vindicates the stand of the state for peace to reign.
He said, “Nobody will be allowed to break the law without the necessary actions being taken. We took Abduljabbar to court and gave him all the necessary things to defend himself.
“We thank God. The court has seen that we do have a case against him and has convicted him accordingly. You know there are a lot of procedures to follow and His Excellency is ever ready; once that warrant is brought before him, he is going to sign it.”
