The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, ‘has not been given his drugs for the past nine days and he has not eaten today [Thursday]’.
This was disclosed by Kanu’s special counsel, Barr Aloy Ejimakor, after he visited Kanu at the custody of the Department of State Services in Abuja where he is being detained since July last year.
The reason for his being starved, according to Ejimakor, is because ‘DSS says that they don’t have money to buy his food’.
Ejimakor tweeted, “Special Update: Today [Thursday], I visited #MNK in company of Prince Emma Kanu & Barr Nnaemeka Ejiofor. He instructed me to make it public that he has not been given his drugs for the past 9 days & he has not eaten today [Thursday] because DSS says that they don’t have money to buy his food. #Sad.”
Kanu was arrested in Kenya last year, and charged with running a proscribed group, jumping bail in 2017, and treason. Copious court judgements have acquitted him, and ordered his release ‘immediate release’, and awarded compensation in his favour, but the federal government has not heeded to any of them.
The ruling of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, on October 13, 2022, which acquitted and discharged Kanu, is before the Supreme Court to determine FG’s stay-of-execution appeal.
