A renowned and public affairs analyst, Osmond Onu, Thursday, said the G-5 Governors might face their political doom if they fail to back Mr Peter Obi ahead of the 2023 elections.
Obi is the presidential candidate of the Labour Party.
Onu told Adadareporters in Enugu that, “The G-5 Governors have no choice than to toe the same line with Obasanjo. Apart from Seyi Makinde, other four governors are serving their out their two terms in office.
“Like analysts would say: ‘a second-term president or governor is like a lame duck that power would soon slip off hands. It would be a disastrous outing and a political suicide for the G-5 Governors if they fail to align themselves with a political hurricane like Peter Obi.
“The G-5 Governors, if align with Obasanjo in supporting Obi, may end up being the heroes of 2023. You can recollect the role played by 5 nPDP governors in the emergence of Buhari in 2015!
“Anything to the contrary may spell doom for the G-5 Governors. But I am aware they are very clever, as they have weighed every option, bidded their time, had several meetings outside the country just to have a good political bargain even though at the expense of tax payers’ money.”
The G-5 Governors, also called the Integrity Governors, are Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State, with Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as their leader. They belong to the Peoples Democratic Party, and want balancing of the party’s hierarchy between the North and the South.
