Dr Doyin Okupe, the erswhile director general of the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, was Thursday morning arrested at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos.
He was arrested by the operatives of the Department of State Services. Okupe was arrested while travelling to London, our correspodent gathered.
One of his lawyers, Tolu Babaleye, posted that the DSS demanded Okupe to show evidence of paying the fine charged him by the court after his conviction.
Recall that Okupe was some weeks ago convicted by an FCT High Court for handling excess funds in cash during the campaign of former President Goodluck Jonathan. He paid about N13m in lieu of jail.
Meanwhile, the spokesman of the DSS, Dr Peter Afunanya, has stated why Okupe was arrested.
According to him, “Doyin Okupe was intercepted by the DSS at the Terminal 1 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, this morning at the instance of the EFCC.
“He has long been handed over to the commission which requested the action. Okupe was billed to fly to London via Virgin Atlantic.”
