Three operatives of a vigilante group have been killed by unknown gunmen in Anambra State.
This was disclosed by the police public relations officer of the state, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement.
According to him, the incident happened at Ihiala. The attackers, he said, also burnt the headquarters of Ihiala LGA.
He stated that, “The attackers murdered three vigilante operatives on duty, beheaded one and set five buildings ablaze with IED and petrol bombs.”
The PPRO said the joint force operatives engaged the arsonists/attackers, and obstructed them from causing further damages while some escaped with bullet wounds.
Quoting him, “The bodies of the victims were recovered and joint operations are still ongoing.
“Following the police/military operations ongoing in Ihaila and its neighboring town, the operatives, responding to a distress call at about 2:55am on 12/1/2023 of an attack on Ihiala local government headquarters, neutralized one of the attackers, recovered two locally made IED launcher, seven undenoted IED, forty pieces of live cartridges, fifteen live 7.62MM Ak47 ammunition, knives, charms, and other dangerous weapons.”
