The chief whip of the Senate, Senator Uzor Kalu, has won the Abia North senatorial district election in Abia State.
Kalu, a two-term governor of the state, contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress. He was declared winner by the returning officer, Chinedu Nnamdi.
He polled 30,815 votes to defeat his closest challenger from the Labour Party, Nnamdi Iro, who scored 27,540.
Former Abia North Senator Mao Ohuabunwa came a distant third with 15,175 votes. He ran on the ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party.
