The prime minister of the Biafra Republic Government in Exile (BRGIE), Mr Simon Ekpa, has exonerated the Indigenous People of Biafra from the insecurity in the South-East states of Nigeria.
Our correspondent reports that South-East states of Abia, Enugu, Imo, Anambra and Ebonyi have become volatile, with blames being apportioned to IPOB, a pro-Biafra actualisation group. The group declared sit-at-home on Mondays in the old Eastern Region to pressure the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, its leader, who was arrested in 2021 in Kenya, and renditioned to Nigeria over alleged running a proscribed group, jumping bail and treason. Kanu was however discharged and acquitted by Nigeria’s Court of Appeal in 2022, but ex-president Muhammadu Buhari sought for a stay of execution at the Supreme Court.
Ekpa, who has been accused of distabilising South-East with his supporters, told the Vanguard that the blame should go to the politicians of the zone.
According to him, “The same politicians are doing it. Politicians are mopping up arms and sponsoring armed groups. This is among the armed groups they are using to sabotage Biafra’s agitation and realisation of Biafra.
“Whenever we call for a sit-at-home, these people will unleash these armed groups to go and start causing problems to tag it Biafra, thinking that when they do that, we are going to run away.
“We have been shouting about it for a very long time. So, if you want to look for who are the people responsible for the violence in the South East, look at these armed people sponsored by politicians.
“Look at Ugochinyere Ikenga for example, a House of Representatives member from Imo State. If you listened to his interview on Arise TV last time, his house was invaded, burnt. Cars were burnt to ashes, property worth millions were destroyed and people were killed.
“The CTV caught the people that came in and they happened to be the Nigerian security agents. If the CCTV was not there, they would accuse IPOB. Nigeria is a very bad country. You know the truth and you don’t want to say it.”
Meanwhile, Ekpa has accused South-East states of sponsoring terrorists to attack him in Finland.
He stated this via his verified Twitter handle. Quoting him, “The governors of the five states of South East Nigeria had a meeting. In that meeting, they all came together to sponsor terrorists to Finland to attack Simon Ekpa. They have made contact with their enablers here in Finland.
This is exactly why we are fighting to dissolve Nigeria.
“The terrorists and their enablers want to make Nigeria their safe haven, and from Nigeria they will be sponsoring terrorism in Africa and America. They will be attacking America and Europe. Sadly, they are yet to have the safe haven, and they are already sponsoring terrorism in Finland.
“The Finish authorities will be notified as usual, while we wait for the attackers to arrive in Finland from next tomorrow. The fact is that I’m on ground.”
