August 2, 2023 has been declared a nationwide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).
NLC, an umbrella body of labour unions in Nigeria, said the only remedy to avert the strike was for the federal government to reverse its draconian policies currently stifling Nigerians.
Some of the Tinubu anti-human policies which NLC wants their immediate reversals are the recent hike in the pump price of petrol, increment in tuition fees of unity schools, and the rumoured electricity tariff bill hike.
To this end, NLC has directed all its affiliates and state councils to immediately begin mobilisation of workers and other Nigerians, including civil society allies, for a long-lasting strike and mass protests should the government fail to meet its demands.
The decision of NLC was arrived at on Tuesday after the meeting of its national working committee held at Labour House, Abuja.
