The government of Ebonyi State has announced the approval of N4 billion for the payment of arrears of gratuities to retired civil servants in the state.
This was disclosed after the weekly State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Abakaliki.
According to the state commissioner for information and state orientation, Mr Jude Okpor, the payment would take of civil servants who retired from 1996 to 2021.
The state Exco also directed that all issues around those who were yet to receive the payment of their pensions be resolved without further delay.
According to him, the payment was part of efforts of the Governor Francis Nwifuru administration to reduce the sufferings of the people in the state.
In his words, “In furtherance of the resolve of the people-oriented and purpose-driven administration of Gov Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru to lifting the living standard of the majority of Ebonyians through human capital development policies, the Ebonyi State Executive Council also approved the payment of arrears of gratuity to retired civil servants from 1996 to 2021 with a cost implementation of over N4 billion.
“Council also directed that all issues around those who are yet to receive the payment of their pension, which is still ongoing, be resolved without further delay.”
He said the governor also announced the release of N2 billion and 3000 bags of rice as palliatives from the federal government.
