Fuel Subsidy: How Enugu State Will Disburse Palliatives – Commissioner

By Adadareporters

The N5bn palliatives which Enugu State got from the federal government will be used to address the plights of the genuine needy in the state, the state commissioner for information, Mr Aka Eze Aka, said during a radio programme monitored by our correspondent on Friday.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu, on assumption of office, announced the removal of petroleum subsidy. The removal jerked the price of petroleum motor spirit, PMS, from about N220 to its present N620, thus increasing the hardship of a majority of Nigerians. To cushion the effects, FG last week announced the release of N5bn to each of the thirty-six states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.

Aka, while throwing more lights on the procedures of sharing the proceeds of the palliatives, said, “N1bn would be used to purchase grains for each state. N4bn will go the states. But 52% is a grant while N48% is a loan. Enugu State is buying buses and will spread them across parts of the state to ease the transportation problems of residents. In Rwanda, a decision is taking on a Friday, and by Monday, the implementation has commenced. That is what this government wants to achieve.

“The palliatives will be shared equitably. It is not political. Men of good standing are in the committee handling the disbursement. There is a list we are compiling, and it is devoid of politics.”
