President Bola Tinubu’s petition to disqualify the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi, did not scale through as the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal, Wednesday, ruled that Obi’s nomination was valid.
Tinubu, of the All Progressives Congress, had contended that Obi’s defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the Labour Party less than 30 days before his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate was at variance with the law.
According to the tribunal, it is the sole responsibility of a political party to determine who becomes its candidate, hence Tinubu’s petition lacked competence.
The tribunal therefore dismissed Tinubu’s reply which demanded that Obi be disqualified for lacking in merit.
