Three newly reconstructed roads have been inaugurated in Aba, the commercial hub of Abia State, THE WHISTLER reports.
Speaking during the event, Governor Alex Otti reaffirmed his administration’s commitment towards the rehabilitation and construction of roads across the state to enhance economic development and wellbeing of the citizens and residents of the state.
Otti said he would not fail to reciprocate the confidence the people of the state bestowed upon him by voting him massively during the 2023 governorship election. Otti won the polls despite being the candidate of opposition Labour Party.
He said he would develop Aba, being ‘the industrial nerve of Southeast’. According to him, ‘what Aba needs is to open it up with good infrastructure and the creation of the enabling environment to support the social and economic lives of the people’.
He regretted that the popular Cemetery Market Road had not been in use for over 20 years, adding that his government ‘is committed to ending the activities of touts in markets’ across the state.
The governor thanked residents and contractors for their support, and pleaded for more support from all. “A new Abia requires the participation of all and sundry,” he said.
The state commissioner for works, Mr Don Oti, said the Otti administration ‘prioritized road infrastructure to improve the economic growth and development of the state’, and called on the beneficiaries of the roads to ‘reciprocate government’s gesture by taking responsibility of keeping the roads free from refuse and drainage blockages’.
The president of Aba Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, ACCIMA, Mr Jerry Kalu, commended Governor Otti for fixing the roads.
Our correspondent reports that the roads inaugurated are Emelogu road, Shallom road and Cemetery road phase 1.
