The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, Tuesday, demanded the Supreme Court of Nigeria to disqualify President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the country’s president over his alleged certificate forgery.
The group also suggested to the apex court to compel Tinubu to resign from the nation’s number one seat.
This was contained in HURIWA’s statement issued on Tuesday, October 3. The group said it was shameful how the forgery case had exposed Nigeria to ridicule.
Tinubu has no moral or legal right to continue to occupy the highest office in the land, said the group, adding that the former Lagos governor abused the constitution and the electoral laws of Nigeria.
The group further alleged that Tinubu had been fingered in other criminal activities, including drug trafficking and money laundering, citing some documents purportedly obtained from the US authorities that linked him to these offences.
It advised Supreme Court not to act ‘like Judas Iscariot who betrayed Jesus Christ by allowing this malfeasance to be sustained’. The group said that the apex court has a duty to uphold justice and protect the integrity of the electoral process and the democratic values of Nigeria.
If Tinubu is not disqualified or made to resign, Nigerians will lose faith in their leaders and institutions, according to HURIWA.
It called on Nigerians to rise up and reject Tinubu as their president because he portends danger to Nigeria and its international reputation.
