The Imo State Police Command has arrested a man in connection with the kidnap of one Mr Sabinus Ugwuebu, ‘m’, a Road Safety Officer, and HRH Eze Ohiri, former Eze Imo.
The arrest followed an operation carried out by the state police operatives in collaboration with the military on 08/01/2023, at about 0330hrs.
They were arrested in a terrorist camp at Ihite Owerre in Orlu Local Government Area, the state PPRO, ASP Henry Okoye, said in a release.
During the operation that led to the arrest, some suspects escaped with gunshot injuries after a protracted gunfight with the terrorists, according to Okoye, adding that, “On searching the camp, one pump action gun, two double barrel guns, two single barrel guns, fifty-four (54) rounds of live cartridges, military uniforms, six motorcycles, a box containing locally made explosives, and road safety uniforms of the kidnapped officer were recovered.”
He said ‘a concerted investigative effort is in progress to arrest the fleeing suspects and possibly rescue the kidnapped victims’, noting that the suspects would be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has reiterated that the command would continue to work closely with the military and other relevant security agencies towards stamping out all forms of crimes and criminality in the state.
According to him, the command would not rest until the kidnapped victims ‘are released and the culprits brought to book’.
