Three suspected male adults were Friday arrested by the Enugu State Police Command following a raid at a criminal hideout.
The arrest was effected at the Centenary City area of Obeagu-onu in Awkunanaw community in Enugu South Local Government Area, the state police command said Saturday.
The arrest followed credible information made available by the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) to the state police command, according to DSP Daniel Ndukwe, the state PPRO.
He stated that, “The operational exercise led to the arrest of the suspects, namely Emmanuel Nwabundo, 39, from Abia State; Emmanuel Eze, 35, and Anthony Onoche George, 30, both from Anambra State, while others escaped.”
He said eight pump action guns with four live and twenty-six expended cartridges; one machete, four units of solar-powered CCTV cameras, thirteen assorted phones, one DVD player, and four bags and clothes, all suspected to be stolen, as well as objects suspected to be charms were recovered from them.
A preliminary investigation conducted revealed that the criminal elements and their cohorts at large had been using the location as a hideout for the design and consequent perfection of their criminal activities, including armed robbery and kidnapping, within Enugu metropolis and environs, Ndukwe said, adding that, the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations are concluded.
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, while hailing the operatives, reaffirmed the commitment of the command to be more proactive and forward-looking in its quest to rid Enugu State of unrepentant criminals and their unwholesome activities.
He called on the citizenry to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and continue to avail the police of credible and actionable security information while also reporting criminals and their activities to the nearest police stations or via telephone numbers 08032003702, 08075390883, 08086671202, or 08098880172, or by sending emails to infoenugupolice@gmail.
