A yet-to-be-identified person died and four others were injured in a motor accident that occurred in Anambra on Thursday.
The accident involved three vehicles: Nissan commercial bus with registration number JJT-57XX, DAF trailer with number registration number, and a Mack trailer with no registration number.
The cause of the crash was wrongful overtaking and over-speeding, an eyewitness said, adding that the bus driver parked in front of Universal Bakery, Ihiala, and was discharging passengers when two trailers, with one overtaking the other, rammed into it.
“The Mark trailer hit the bus to an electric pole and the bus somersaulted and crashed,” the witness said.
Our correspondent reports that the accident involved 17 people, comprising 13 male adults, four female adults, with four persons sustaining varying degrees of injuries and one male adult dead.
RC Margaret B. Onabe, acting Sector Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Anambra State, said, “Twelve persons were rescued unhurt. The injured victims were taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihialla, by FRSC rescue team while the dead victim was deposited at same hospital mortuary.
“The FRSC rescue team on ground managed the traffic and ensured obstruction caused by the crash was removed.”
Meanwhile, the Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, warned motorists ‘to desist from wrongful overtaking and drive within the safe speed limit’.
He also advised commercial vehicles to park outside the road where it is safe to offload passengers.
