The authorities of Maduka University, Enugu, Wednesday, described the online publication claiming that the university scammed ‘over 400 nursing students ₦800,000 each without offering them admission’ as the handiwork of mischief-makers.
The university authorities, in an official statement posted on the Facebook page of its founder, Dr Samuel Maduka Onyishi, urged the public to disregard the publication.
The statement read in part, “The malicious and false publication, which appeared first on www.thepressng.com and syndicated on other blogs with the headline: ‘Maduka University Enugu Scams Over 400+ Nursing Students ₦800,000 Each Without Offering Them Admission’, should be disregarded.
The online publication had claimed that “over 400 nursing students were denied admission despite paying their fees”.
Maduka University stated that, “As the management of Maduka University, we wish to categorically refute these baseless claims and provide clarity on the matter.
“It is important to state that at Maduka University, Enugu, students are only required to pay school fees after being formally admitted into their respective programmes. It is against our institutional policy to collect fees from prospective students before offering them admission.
“Contrary to the erroneous assertions made in the circulated story, Maduka University operates an open admission policy and academic activities, including those in the nursing and other departments, [which] are currently ongoing. The allegations of collecting fees from over 400 nursing students without offering them admission are entirely false and without merit.”
The university challenged ‘anyone making such claims to provide evidence of payment without corresponding admission into our institution’.
It added, “As a responsible institution committed to transparency and accountability, we invite scrutiny and verification of our records to debunk these unfounded accusations. Maduka University remains steadfast in its dedication to providing quality education and upholding the highest standards of integrity and ethics.
“Our guiding mantra emphasises student-centered learning, critical thinking, creativity, and a commitment to excellence. We are deeply committed to the well-being and success of our students, and any suggestion to the contrary is baseless and misleading.”
The university, in the statement, announced that its 2023/2024 matriculation ceremony would hold on 23rd February 2024.
According to the statement, “We extend a warm invitation to candidates participating in this year’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to consider Maduka University as their institution of choice.
“Our legal team is currently reviewing the publication and will pursue necessary action against the individuals responsible for the malicious story. We urge the public to disregard the false narrative being circulated and reaffirm our unwavering dedication to providing quality education and fostering an environment conducive to learning and personal development.
“We caution the public, prospective students, and parents against making any payments to unauthorised individuals. All official transactions should be conducted solely through our established channels of communication. Any dealings with individuals outside the school management are done at one’s own risk.”
The management said enquiries into admission matters should be channelled to admission@madukauniversity.com.ng, info@madukauniversity.com.ng, or call: 08055091802 or 09157893107.
