Tuesday’s nationwide protest of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Enugu only held at the secretariat following a restriction placed on the protesters by the state command of the Nigeria Police.
The protest was to rally against the current hunger and economic hardship in the country.
The chairman of state NLC, Mr Fabian Nwigbo, said the protest by NLC was to draw the attention of the government to hardships facing citizens, which he attributed to some anti-people policies of the government.
Nwigbo regretted the level of hunger in the land, adding that a lot of Nigerians were dying because they could not have access to basic medication and three square meals per day.
He said NLC members in the state came out in their numbers to protest, but regretted that the police command in Enugu State restricted the protest within the state as ‘it could not afford to secure Labour movement beyond NLC Secretariat.’
He however said, “We will continue tomorrow as the struggle continues.”
