The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Aderemi Adeoye, Sunday, assured the people of the state that “no stone will be left unturned in hunting down the gunmen who attacked and burnt the vigilante office at Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state.”
CP Aderemi, who condoled with the town and people of the area on the loss of a vigilante operative during the attack, stated that “effort were ongoing to identify and smash the gang behind the attack”.
The CP’s statement was contained in a release by the Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to the release, “The CP commended vigilante groups across the state for their commitment to the protection of the citizenry and assured that the police would do all within its powers to protect them.”
He also directed Police Tactical Teams and Special Forces across the state to respond promptly to all distress calls from vigilante groups anytime they come under attack, and prayed for the repose of the vigilante operative who lost his life in the attack. He assured that his death would not be in vain.
Unknown gunmen had in their numbers attacked the office of the Anambra State Vigilante at Amichi, Nnewi South LGA, on Thursday, burning a patrol van and its occupant in the process.
