The special counsel to Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, Barrister Aloy Ejimakor, says the trial of his client must comply with the fundamental principles of justice and fair hearing.

Kanu is the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), and facing trial on alleged jumping bail, treason, running a proscribed group, among others. He has been in detention since 2021 when he was renditioned to Nigeria from Kenya.

Ejimakor stated this via his verified social media handle shortly after visiting Kanu in detention with the legal team on Thursday. Kanu is being held at the custody of the Department of State Services in Abuja.

Ejimakor wrote, “Myself & the #LegalTeam have concluded today’s visitation with Onyendu MAZI NNAMDI KANU. To cut long story short, #MNK will never be subjected to any TRIAL that lacks the basic guarantee of FAIR HEARING. That is the irreducible minimum & it’s non- negotiable. Yes!”
