The police officers seen in a viral video assaulting a citizen in Anambra State have been identified, the state police command announced on Tuesday.
The state commissioner of police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has subsequently ordered immediate disciplinary proceedings to commence on the incident.
This was disclosed in a statement by the command’s public relations officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga.
According to him, “Given the above, the command also invites the victim to come forward, to help in facilitating the necessary procedures involved in the process.”
Meanwhile, CP Itam has reiterated that the command under his watch would not tolerate any form of unprofessional conduct by police personnel. He emphasized the need for officers “to be courageously calm when dealing with the civil populace especially when being provoked.”
He also urged the citizens to always respect the civil authority and be law-abiding.
